Laura Svaren
Laura is both Director of Music Ministry and Connections Coordinator.
A life-long Lutheran, I began playing piano and organ for my hometown church during my teen years. During college, I worked 4 summers on church camp staff and as worship/music director for Lutheran Campus Ministry on my college campus. Over the years since, I’ve been organist for churches in Tennessee and Munich, Germany, as well as worship leader/pianist for both a church and Lutheran Campus Ministry in St. Louis, MO. Along the way, I’ve sung in various church choirs.
At Midvale, I wear a couple of different hats on staff.
As Director of Music Ministry, I assist the pastors in planning worship services and exploring ways for music to enhance our worship experience and help all of us feel a connection to the Holy One. I coordinate schedules and provide support for all Midvale’s accompanists and music ensembles. I seek out, recruit, and equip our people with musical gifts and help find ways for them to share their gifts within our faith community.
As Connections Coordinator, I serve as a sort of human switchboard, connecting our members and friends to one another, to the congregational community, and to ministries to which they feel called. My duties involve volunteer recruitment, new member care, and small group ministry. I love getting to know people, hearing their stories, learning about their interests and passions.
My family consists of my husband, John, our two almost-adult children, Levi and Esther, and our silly dog, Ounce. In my spare time, I love to read, play piano, hike & camp, and spend time with my family.
