Be yourself
"You are the light of the world."
"You are the salt of the earth."
This weekend we read these words from Jesus. Notice in these words, Jesus gives you and me a promise, not a command.
This is, I think, the main point of this passage to keep in mind and allow to shape you. Jesus isn’t saying, “You should be the salt of the earth and light of the world.” Or, “You have to be…” let alone “You better be….” Rather, he is saying, you are. As in already are. Even if you don’t know it. Even if you once knew it and forgot. Even if you have a hard time believing it.
See you at worship this weekend where I'm going to preach on these words of Jesus that promise: you already are God's light in the world, you already are salt of the earth. So, be yourself!
