Journeying through Lent

This weekend we mark the first Sunday in the season of Lent. Each year on the first Sunday in Lent we hear about Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness. His forty-day fast becomes the basis of our Lenten pilgrimage. As we journey through this season we pray that we may be able to resist the temptations that come to us here and now. We also remember that we, like Jesus, are not alone. Jesus had the words and promises of the Hebrew scriptures to guide and sustain him. We have those same words, along with the witness of Jesus and the presence of the Holy Spirit to sustain and guide us. Come to worship, to receive the Spirit’s strength to live in light of your baptism.
