Immigration Action Team

Midvale's Immigration Action Team engages in education on the immigration crisis in the United States and supports refugees, immigrants and asylum seekers in our area. They are partners with the Dane Sanctuary Coalition in our local area for this ministry.

In January of 2024, Pastor Katie is leading a group from Midvale on a service learning trip to the U.S.-Mexico border through Border Servant Corps.

Other helpful resources and ways you can help with the immigration issues are available through the ELCA's AMMPARO ministry and Lutheran Immigration and Refuge Service (LIRS).

Asylum Seeker Ministry

The Immigration Action Team has created a detailed proposal to sponsor an asylum seeker or a small family to assist them along their immigration path. We have proposed to support the asylum seeker(s) for a period of two years with housing, food and social support. This proposal has been endorsed by our Pastors, the Congregational Council, and will be funded for the first year by private donations and a grant from the Endowment Committee, pending approval at the Congregational Meeting. The Endowment Committee has expressed their enthusiasm for continuing to sustain this ministry for the second year as needed.

We are about to embark on an exciting new ministry at Midvale. We will be providing housing and support for an asylum seeker or small family seeking asylum. Once we get the information about the person or people we will be hosting, we will have to go into action pretty quickly. Please check back to this page regularly for updates!

If you would like to financially support the asylum seeker ministry, you can donate online from the GIVE NOW button. From the donation page, select “Asylum Seeker Support Fund” from the drop down menu.

Ukrainian Family Ministry

We are providing housing and support for an multi-generational Ukrainian family who fled the war. Since March of 2022, Midvale has helped to sponsor the Bykov family, who fled the war in Ukraine and now live here in Madison.
