I grew up south of Brodhead, WI, on a farm that is still in the family. I have a brother on the farm and a sister in Palmyra, WI.
I graduated from Luther College in Decorah, IA, and from the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago. I also have a Masters of Systematic Theology and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque. I served four years in Racine, 26 years in Monroe and eight years at Lakeview Lutheran on Madison’s north side. I retired in 2001 and have served 10 congregations as Interim Pastor since then.
I have three children - Timothy (Amber) and daughter Emma in Grand Junction, Colorado. Tim is the head of the Theatre/Speech department at Mesa State University. Son David, lives in Livingston, WI, and is Maintenance Manager at a new cheese plant (Alp & Dell) in Platteville. He has four children. I have one daughter, Krisann, who lives south of Mt. Horeb and is a speech therapist. Her husband Dave is a Sargent with the Dane Co. Sheriffs Department, they have three children. I also have two great grandchildren.
My first wife, Carrie, died in 1988 of cancer. I am blessed with a wonderful new wife of 19 years, Mary Markwardt. She is from North Dakota (all North Dakotans alert!). We live on the north side of Madison.
For fun I enjoy reading (history), fishing and traveling. I used to have a Goldwing motorcycle (but have given that up). I used to drive semi trucks (but have given that up). I am finding that aging has much to do with giving up things!
I look forward to my time at Midvale Community Lutheran and meeting you.
