Members of Midvale Lutheran are partnering with the Food, Farm and Faith Network to host a Winter Farmers' Market and Sunday Brunch that will be set-up and be served in Fellowship Hall on Sunday, February 18. The market will be open following the 8:00am worship and remain open through the time when brunch will be served. Local farmers, small cooperatives, and local producers of value-added products will be selling their own products such as grass-fed meats and poultry, farmstead cheese, flour, eggs, honey, maple syrup, sorghum, apples, cider, wool and woolen goods, jams and preserve s, hoop house greens, root vegetables and more.
Brunch, prepared by Midvale member Chef Joel Olson, will be served following 10:30am worship. The menu has not been determined but all the ingredients will be locally sourced from farmers using sustainable practices for growing organic food. The cost of the meal is $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for youth ages 6-12, free for children under 6, or $25.00 for a family. Please sign up in advance on the sheet provided in the Gathering Space.
The Food, Farm, and Faith Network will receive one half of the profit from the meal to support their organizing work for winter farmer’s markets in area congregations.
One half of the proceeds will also be given to Wally and Donna Behnke owners of Rolling Hills Farm. Wally and Donna are members of Brooklyn Lutheran Church. The Behnke’s family farm is located near Brooklyn, Wisconsin. Early the morning of September 19, their barn was on fire. The roof collapsed and killed 30 of their 60 cows. One of the their cows, Gigi, was an award winning milk producer. Your support of the Behnke family will be greatly appreciated as they continue to recover from this devastating loss.
