Imagine the comfort that comes from a hug at the time when you need it most. That’s the feeling we share through the LWR Quilts that we will bless this weekend in worship. Through a simple combination of fabric and thread, we reach out to people in their time of greatest need with a strong message of hope — you are not alone.
First and foremost, recipients use their LWR Quilts to shield against the cold and rain, and for warm bedding. But their versatility also makes quilts useful as simple tents, floor coverings, or a wrap to hold a baby on a mother’s back.
Our congregation's Lutheran World Relief Quilters meet on the first, third and fifth Tuesdays of each month. Each year they create over 100 quilts to be given through Lutheran World Relief. They also coordinate LWR personal care kits and baby care kits and help Sunday School with school kits. These gifts make such a difference in the lives of those who receive them. Midvale's quilters also make baby quilts that are given to each infant who is baptized here, a sign that the child has been wrapped up in God's love! The quilters are always glad to welcome more to their group - and you will discover they are not only faithful and hard-working, but also have a lot of fun together! Talk to the quilters between worship times on Sunday, say thanks for their work, and browse the items on display for sale, the proceeds of which will all go to pay for the shipping of the quilts and for materials for next year.
